Culinary Highlight of Sri Lanka in January
Kiribath: The dish of new beginnings
January in Sri Lanka is synonymous with Kiribath (Milk Rice). As the first solid food eaten in the New Year and a centerpiece of the Thai Pongal festival (celebrated this month by the Tamil community), this dish represents prosperity and luck. Made by cooking rice with thick coconut milk until it reaches a sticky, creamy consistency, it is cut into diamond shapes and traditionally served with Lunu Miris (a spicy onion and chili relish) or jaggery. It is the perfect cultural bite to start your 2026 journey.

Hidden gem by the beach: ÀNI Sri Lanka
If you are looking for a new definition of “absolute privacy,” ÀNI Sri Lanka is the answer. Rather than a traditional hotel, this is a Private Resort located on a coastal bluff in Dickwella, catering to only one group of guests at a time.
ÀNI offers an all-inclusive experience ranging from personalized dining menus and daily spa treatments to private cooking classes. It is the ultimate “hidden gem” for families or groups of friends who want to monopolize a stretch of the Indian Ocean for themselves, without sharing it with anyone else.
Safari glamping: Wild Coast Tented Lodge
Situated adjacent to Yala National Park, Wild Coast Tented Lodge continues to define the pinnacle of luxury camping. The resort’s “Cocoon” suites are designed to mimic massive rocks scattered between the jungle and the pristine beach.
The resort was also recently awarded a Michelin Key (for outstanding hotels) in late 2025, further validating its excellence. This is not merely accommodation but a 5-star safari experience where guests can observe leopards by day and enjoy a luxurious dinner under a star-studded sky by night.

The Pekoe Trail: TIME Magazine’s “World’s Greatest Places 2025”

Moreover, not just a hiking route, The Pekoe Trail is a lifeline for community tourism, encouraging travelers to walk from Haputale to Ella, stay in local homestays, and engage with the tea-plucking communities. It stands as a beacon of slow, sustainable tourism, ensuring that the beauty of the hill country is preserved for generations to come.
