Where is Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang?
Hoang Su Phi is a mountainous district in the western part of the former Ha Giang province (now Tuyen Quang province), located about 80 km from the center of Ha Giang. It includes 24 communes and 1 town. Four of these communes share a border with China, stretching up to 40 kilometers long.
Because it sits between the East and Northeast regions, Hoang Su Phi has a majestic natural landscape. These fields curve beautifully along the mountainsides, from the bottom of the valleys to the high peaks, looking like a giant painting in the middle of nature.
Along with this beautiful scenery, the local community keeps its unique culture alive. About 12 ethnic minority groups have lived here for a long time, including the Nung, Dao, Tay, Hmong, and La Chi. This gives travelers a great chance to learn about the rich history and authentic local life while enjoying the view.

Hoang Su Phi rice terraces & harvest season
The beauty of the terraces
The most beautiful sight in the Northwest during the rice season is Hoang Su Phi. When you pass the Km17 heaven gate on the road from Bac Quang, you will see a huge, amazing view of the Tay Con Linh mountains. This mountain range is often covered in mist and features ancient primeval forests, creating a magical background. The mountains are covered with golden, ripe rice fields that look like a bright yellow coat over the green forest. The winding Chay and Bac rivers, along with old Shan Tuyet tea fields on the hills, make the landscape even more beautiful. For nature lovers and photographers, this place is perfect for capturing the best moments of nature.
When is harvest season in Hoang Su Phi?
Farmers in Hoang Su Phi only grow rice once a year. Therefore, you must choose the right time to see the beautiful ripe rice. Late September and early October are the absolute best times to visit. During these autumn weeks, the weather is cool and there is less rain, making it the perfect environment for visitors to enjoy the amazing terraced fields.
