News: Vietnam extends e-visas to 90 days

Vietnam’s National Assembly, during its ongoing fifth session, has approved an extension of tourist e-visas from 30 to 90 days, starting August 15, 2023. Upon receiving an e-visa, foreigners can enjoy unlimited entries and exits within a 90-day period, eliminating the need for visa renewal procedures.
Vietnam will grant citizens of countries unilaterally exempted from visas a temporary residence period of 45 days (previously 15 days). The authorities will consider visa issuance and extension in accordance with regulations.
The law on amendments and supplements to the Law on the Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens, as well as the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam, was approved by the 15th National Assembly with 470 out of 475 deputies present. It will take effect from August 15, 2023.

The new law extends electronic visas (e-visas) from 30 to 90 days. The government will be responsible for determining the list of eligible countries and territories, as well as specifying the international border gates that will permit e-visa entries and exits.
The online immigration procedures will enhance efficiency in managing entry and exit activities. And providing more convenience for both Vietnamese and foreign individuals, according to Chairman of the NA Committee for National Defence and Security, Lê Tấn Tới.
Currently, Vietnam issues e-visas to citizens of 80 countries through its electronic transaction system, with each e-visa being valid for a single entry. (Countries that enjoy Vietnam’s visa exemption)
