Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Arrival

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Arrival

Chum reap suor! Welcome to the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh! Once hailed as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, Phnom Penh has endured many ups and downs alongside the Tonle Sap River. Much of its former grace was destroyed by war and genocide in the 1970s. Yet this capital city has persevered into the 21st century with optimism and bravery. Visitors are enchanted by its sacred Khmer architectures, the presence of saffron-robed monks, and the nostalgic French colonial charm, all infused with a youthful, cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Upon arrival, our friendly driver will warmly welcome and take you to your hotel. Once settling in, you will have a mini exploration around the heart of Phnom Penh. We’ll begin with a visit to the Royal Palace, used to be the official residence of King Sihamoni. Right within the royal complex, we’ll explore the Silver Pagoda, which is covered with 5 tonnes of gleaming silver. Inside is a stunning collection of Buddha statues made of precious metals. Our final spot is Wat Phnom, situated atop the only ‘hill’ in town. Fun fact: Legend has it that this temple’s spiritual tale, centered around its founder Lady Penh, drew countless visitors and contributed to the city’s expansion. As a tribute to Lady Penh, the capital city was later named after her.

Day 2: Phnom Penh - Tuol Sleng Museum

Morning:
Begin your day in style by hopping on a traditional cyclo, Cambodia’s iconic mode of transportation. We’ll glide through the city streets to our first stop, the Central Market. This bustling hub offers everything from charming souvenirs to fresh produce. Next, we’ll visit the National Museum, a stunning Khmer-style building housing an extraordinary collection of Khmer art, including exquisite sculptures and artifacts.

Afternoon:
Our journey continues to the Tuol Sleng Museum, a poignant reminder of Cambodia’s dark past. Once a high school, this site became a notorious prison under Pol Pot’s regime. Thousands were held here before being taken to the Choeung Ek Killing Field. To lighten the mood, we’ll have a serene one-hour sunset cruise on the Mekong River. Revel in the breathtaking views as the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the tranquil water. Finally, we’ll visit the lively Toul Tumpong Market or Russian Market, where you can discover unique street food and delightful souvenirs.

Day 3: Siem Reap - Free & Easy

It’s time to say goodbye to Phnom Penh for the flight to Siem Reap. Three decades ago, Siem Reap was a small, dusty provincial gateway to one of the most remarkable Angkor creations on earth. The locals endured the rule of the Khmer Rouge stronghold in the 1970s, facing heinous war crimes. Only the most adventurous travelers visited Cambodia during decades of conflict and political turmoil. Until the early 90s, when peace finally descended on Cambodia, Siem Reap gradually transformed into a modern and safe tourism spot.

Upon arrival, our friendly guide and driver will warmly welcome you upon arrival and take you to your hotel in the city center. Once settling in, you will have a chance to explore Siem Reap at your leisure.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

Day 4: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

Morning:
Our day begins with a visit to Angkor Thom, a fortified city that houses iconic sites like the Terrace of Elephants, the Royal Enclosure, and the Temple of Bayon, known for its giant smiling Buddha faces. We’ll explore the dense tree canopy to discover the moss-covered ruins of Ta Prohm, a Buddhist temple made mainstream by the film ‘Tomb Raider’. Wander through its towers, courtyards, and corridors to find out intricate stone reliefs that are hidden by ancient giant roots and lush foliage.

Afternoon:
We’ll pass by stone faces watching over us at South Gate of Angkor Thom to reach Cambodia’s national icon and Khmer people’s pride, Angkor Wat. Do you know that this UNESCO-listed wonder stands as the world’s largest temple monument? The sacred site holds significant cultural importance in Hindu mythology, symbolizing the peaks of Mount Meru, the Gods’ dwelling. Explore further to admire intricately carved bas reliefs depicting the king in battle and graceful Apsara dancers.

Day 5: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap

Day 5: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap

Morning:
Our journey begins with a venture south to the magnificent Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. This lake is not just a scenic wonder but also a lifeline for the locals, providing an abundance of fish. If you visit during the dry season, you’ll witness nearly a hundred fishing families living in stilted wooden houses that stand 2-3 meters tall, each with a boat nestled beneath. Come the rainy season, the river flows back into Tonle Sap, creating an exotic landscape where these homes appear to float on water, with boats becoming essential for transportation. Returning to the city center, we’ll visit the Artisans d’Angkor workshop, where you’ll marvel at exquisite traditional Cambodian handicrafts.

Afternoon:
We’ll catch a flight to Sihanoukville, from where you’ll be whisked away to the enchanting Koh Rong Island. This idyllic paradise is perfect for unwinding after our Cambodian exploration. Once settling in your hotel, you’ll have ample time to explore the crystal-clear waters and pristine white sandy beaches.
