Day 1: Vientiane - Arrival

Welcome to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It is possibly Asia’s most laidback capital, where everything seems to move at a gentle pace. You’ll find faded colonial mansions, tree-lined boulevards dating back to the French Invasion, and ancient temples from the Khmer era, all contributing to the city’s timeless atmosphere, especially along the tranquil Mekong River.

Upon arrival, our guide and driver will warmly welcome and take you to your hotel. No activities are planned for today, so feel free to take a leisurely stroll through the town and discover the hidden gems it has to offer.

Day 2: Vientiane – City tour

Morning:
We will take you on a journey to discover the fascinating culture and history of Vientiane. Our first stop is Wat Si Muang, which is considered the home of the guardian spirit of Vientiane. It offers a fascinating insight into how old animist beliefs have blended seamlessly with Theravada Buddhism. Next, we’ll venture to the mesmerizing Buddha Park, or Xieng Khuan, with over 200 striking statues representing Buddhist and Hindu deities. Our itinerary continues with a visit to the Lao Disabled Women’s Development Center. Here, you can learn about the daily challenges faced by disabled women in Laos and support their cause by purchasing handmade crafts crafted by these resilient women themselves.

Afternoon:
Continue with a visit to the iconic golden That Luang, a symbol of Buddhist faith and Lao sovereignty. Later, we’ll climb the atop Patuxai, also known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triomphe, for a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Explore more of Vientiane’s rich heritage at Wat Sisaket, the sole temple to survive the Siamese invasion in 1828, and Wat Phra Keo, home to a captivating collection of Khmer artworks. As the day winds down, take a leisurely stroll along the Mekong River, soaking in the romantic beauty of the sunset.

Say goodbye to the heart of Vientaine as we’ll hit the road northbound to Tha Heua Village, situated on the northern side of Nam Ngum Lake. Did you know that Nam Ngum Lake is Laos’ largest man-made reservoir created for the Nam Ngum Dam? Since Laos doesn’t have a coastline, the locals affectionately call this lake “the sea of Laos.”

Upon arrival, you’ll check into your resort, overlooking the massive Nam Ngum Lake. The rest of the day is yours to explore Tha Heua Village. You can rent a bike and pedal through its scenic countryside, fully immersing yourself into the local landscape and community.

Waking up to the chirping of birds from bushes, your day begins with an escort to nearby villages where you’ll see locals beginning their day. Then, we’ll set off on a kayaking adventure, exploring charming islets amid Nam Ngum Lake. In the dry season, the water recedes, revealing a long stretch of white sand on the islet, which is perfect for a beach-like experience. Returning to shore, we stop at Houay Phanom Village, where you’ll meet a host family and learn traditional weaving techniques passed down through generations.

Afternoon:
You have the freedom to explore the resort and its surroundings at your leisure. Relax by the pool and watch the sunset reflect off the lake, or visit the local market where you can find dried fish, a specialty of Tha Heua Village.

Day 5: Vang Vieng – Cave exploration

Day 5: Vang Vieng – Cave exploration

Morning:
We’ll have a short drive to reach our next destination, Vang Vieng, a pristine and laid-back region with limestone cliffs and formations lining up along the Nam Song River. Our journey begins at Tham Jang, a cave that served as a hideout for locals during the early 19th century to escape Chinese marauders. As you follow the well-lit pathways, marvel at the strange formations glowing and listen to the water dripping from the stalactites. Next, we’ll cross the Nam Song River for a short drive to Tham Phu Kham. This cave descends 100 meters into the ground and houses a magnificent bronze reclining Buddha in its main chamber. After the cave exploration, we’ll head to the nearby Blue Lagoon. Here, you can cool off and relax in the refreshing, crystal-clear waters.

Afternoon:
The rest of the day is all yours to discover Vang Vieng. Perhaps take a leisurely stroll along the riverbank, hand in hand, or indulge in a candlelit dinner under the stars.

Day 6: Vang Vieng - Leisure Day

Day 6: Vang Vieng - Leisure Day

You have the entire day to explore Vang Vieng to the fullest. Do you need some inspiration? These suggestions might be helpful for you:
– Ziplining in Vang Vieng is an adventure that you should not miss in Laos. The adrenaline rush as you zip along steel cables, feeling the wind in your hair, is unmatched.
– If you love exploring on foot, hike up to Nam Xay Viewpoint, where the climb takes about 20-30 minutes. The panoramic views of the Nam Song River as well as the surrounding countryside with green fields and mountain valleys are truly awe-inspiring. And more than that, you’ll find a motorbike firmly placed at the summit for that perfect Instagram shot. Just be cautious, as it’s placed high and the stones can be slippery.
– Ever wondered how Vang Vieng looks from the air? Try a hot air balloon ride, a trending and romantic experience in Laos recently. With uncrowded skies, you’ll witness the entire Vang Vieng at its most beautiful. The best views are near dawn and dusk, when the sun paints the sky with golden hues.

Cruising at the speed of up to 160 km/h, the modern train ride becomes an adventure in itself. Sitting at the sacred confluence of the Mekong River and the Nam Khan River, time seems to stand still in Luang Prabang. This town is recognized by UNESCO for the 33 gilded stupas gracing the skyline, the sight of saffron-clad monks on the streets at dawn, and the elegant Indochinese villas that remind of a colonial era long gone.

Upon arrival at the station, our driver will be waiting to greet and take you to your hotel. Afterwards, the rest of the day will be yours to explore Luang Prabang. We suggest leisurely sipping a drink at a riverside café and soaking in the serene ambiance as the sun sets.
