Day 2: Hanoi - City Tour

Morning:
Your exploration of Hanoi begins with a visit to Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in the city, located on a small island amidst the West Lake. After that, you’ll visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to delve into the inspiring legacy of ‘Uncle Ho’, Vietnam’s beloved former leader. Next, a visit to his traditional stilt house nearby will provide insights into his presidential years during wartime. Following our exploration is the unique architecture of One Pillar Pagoda, which is shaped like a lotus blossom. The morning ends up with a visit to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, where you’ll gain insights into the diverse cultures of Vietnam’s 54 officially recognized ethnic groups.

Afternoon:
After lunch, the journey continues to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. Established in the 11th century, it features ancient stone steles that record the names of successful scholars from centuries past. The tour then takes you to Hoa Lo Prison Museum, a historic site originally used by French colonists to imprison Vietnamese political activists. During the Vietnam War, it became known to American POWs as the “Hanoi Hilton,” offering a sobering perspective on the country’s complex past. After the city tour, you’ll be taken back to the hotel to enjoy the nightlife of Hanoi on your own.

Note:
If your visit falls on a Monday or Friday, keep in mind that Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and Vietnam Museum of Ethnology will be closed. Your itinerary will feature the Vietnamese Women’s Museum instead.
